Indigenous Connections

On May 28, 2013, members of the International Grammar School (IGS) community gathered at the IGS Hall at Kelly Street for an evening of music and arts. Indigenous Connections @IGS was a gala event held in support of the IGS’s Indigenous Scholarship Program sponsored by Trojan TechGroup. The event was hosted by the International Grammar School, a co-educational secular school offering quality teaching for preschool, primary and high school students located at Ultimo, NSW. The event reflects the school’s strong focus on inter-cultural education and interdisciplinary arts program.

Indigenous Connections at IGS started with an art exhibit by Tali Gallery, a company specializing in ethically sourced paintings, prints, artifacts, crafts and gifts from Aboriginal owned community art centers and independent urban artists from all over Australia. The exhibition was curated with help from students from the Sydney College of the Arts. Guests were given the opportunity to purchase selected pieces as part of the fund raising event. For friends of IGS who were not able to attend the event, they can still contribute to the IGS Indigenous Scholarship Program by purchasing art At TaliG’s showroom (667 Darling Street, Rozelle) until June 5, 2013. Indigenous Connections also featured two dance numbers from the Bangarra Dance Troop. In line with the event’s theme, the world- renowned Indigenous dance company wowed the audience with exquisite costumes and authentic indigenous music.

The event also showcased performances from Singer Marcus Corowa (winner 2012 National Deadly Award for Best New Talent) and other performers: Mi-Kaisha, an IGS school student who performed on the hit Australian movie “The Sapphires”, the IGS choir and award-winning saxophonists – Nicholas and Nathan, and another talented IGS school student, singer and composer, Holly Howe.

As a part of the event Trojan TechGroup greeted guests with an introduction to the show on the A1 eBoard, our 65″ interactive touchscreen monitor. This technology really added to the event making for a spectacular introduction, and great pre-show entertainment for the ticket holders and their children!
