Climate Clubs is a brand new concept that combines Australians’ love of competitive sport with their concern on how climate change will impact our future. It brings together households in school community-based teams to save power, reduce pollution and raise funds for their school. Ask our team of EcoSmart Electricians in Sydney how you can also help save the planet!
The trial competition is being set up and run by the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) in collaboration with the three inner west primary schools, the NSW Department of Environment Climate Change and Water (DECCW), Marrickville Council, the Australian Conservation Foundation, EnergyAustralia and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The Climate Clubs trial was launched on Thursday 6 May at Dulwich Hill Public School featuring a number of special guests including Sydney Swans Co-Captain, Craig Bolton, and the Mayor of Marrickville, Sam Iskandar. The three teams, based around Wilkins, Ferncourt and Dulwich Hill Public Schools, will be competing from now until November for the inaugural Climate Clubs Cup and prize money that will be awarded on the basis of energy savings in homes compared to the same time last year.
"The NSW Government is proud to be the major sponsor contributing $40,000 to this project, which uses the concept of sporting teams to encourage community groups to work together to achieve energy savings."
