Earth Hour started in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Over 2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. One year later, Earth Hour was turned into a global movement with more than 50 million people over 35 countries joining in. Lights on the major landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the CN Tower in Toronto, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and Rome’s Colosseum, were shut off for the hour. Trojan TechGroup's electricians in Sydney also turned off all power for Earth hour.
In 2009, hundreds of millions of people in 88 countries turned off their lights to pledge their support for Earth Hour. Earth Hour 2009 was the world’s largest global climate change initiative.
Earth Hour is organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) which is one of the world’s biggest independent conservation organizations. They aim to stop the degradation of the Earth’s natural environment.
New research shows that the world has just five years to start a low carbon industrial revolution before climate change becomes unavoidable. So pledge your support now for Earth Hour 2010!
Earth Hour 2010 will occur at 8.30pm on Saturday, the 27th of March 2010 and is a global call to stand up, take responsibility, get involved and lead the way towards a sustainable future.
