The Global Lighting Forum (GLF) recently inaugurated the LED Working Group at its most recent meeting, held in Shenzhen, China. The GLF is a forum of peak industry lighting organisations from around the world representing over 5000 lighting manufacturers and US$50 billion annual sales. Australia’s interests in the Forum are represented by Lighting Council Australia.

The Prime Minister’s Task Group on Energy Efficiency report was released recently, and the recommended energy-efficiency reforms shown in the report represent considerable incentives for businesses undertaking any energy-efficiency projects. Businesses will be allowed to claim a one-off bonus tax deduction of 50% of the cost of improving the energy efficiency of a building that has a rating of two stars or lower.

Earth Hour started in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Over 2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. One year later, Earth Hour was turned into a global movement with more than 50 million people over 35 countries joining in. Lights on the major landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the CN Tower in Toronto, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and Rome’s Colosseum, were shut off for the hour.
